A Research Study On Sudden Death Young Competitive Athletes
Sudden death Young Competitive Athletes is subject to many risk factors, and cardiovascular risk factors seem to be the leading cause. Decreasing or minimizing the risks associated with this health concern is the key. A study over 27 years of time span consisted of 1866 athletes that range from 38 various sports was conducted in the hope of better understanding this heath crisis. Athletes who suffered sudden death or survived cardiac arrest with an age range of 19à ±6 within the United States were included in the study. The totally reported of sudden cardiac death is significantly higher than any other causes, with the highest of 76 for the year of 2005-2006. The mean was 66 deaths per year during the last 6 years of the study. Suddenâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦The focus of the last several years is to develop strategies that could prevent these unexpected events from happening. Screening for cardiovascular health has been important to develop tools to help stop athletes from par ticipating in potentially dangerous sports or having preventive interventions tools in place such as defibrillators on the occurrence of such tragic event. Due to the rare occurrence of such events, the research has been difficult to develop practical strategies for large amount of screening process. The degree of difficulty in terms of data collected by the researchers has been significant as it is hard to get a true absolute number of these events. The research was done at the Minneapolis heart institute foundation. Data were gathered, and dated back to 1980. The research was reviewed by the Allina Institutional Review Board. Searchable records n=5 billion were being explored. The criteria were: an athlete was part of an organized team or individual sports, which required intensive, or systematic intensive training. The athletes were less than 39 years old at the time of the event (either survivors or non survivors). Out of the 1866 athletes, the specific causes n=1353 of death through autopsy report were documented, and/or clinical evaluations information n=117. The cause of death in the n= 513 athletes were not well documented due to the
